George H. Sly, Jr., 62, of Spokane, WA died Wednesday, November 22, 2011 with his family by his side following his battle with Laryngeal cancer. He was born on June 10, 1949 in Spokane, WA to George H. Sly, Sr. and Margery Sly. He attended college in Spokane and served one tour in Vietnam as a crew chief on an F-4 Phantom fighter jet.  In April 17, 1978, he followed in his father’s footsteps becoming a second generation firefighter with the Spokane Valley Fire Department. Like his father, who retired after 20 years, George enjoyed a long career with Spokane Valley Fire and retired after 32 years of service on June 28, 2010. He was known as the Union Fairness Officer always offering his opinion on department matters.  George volunteered for many things; a high school track and cross country meet starter, the Spokane Valley Firefighters Benevolent Association, and with various local fundraisers.  He was active in the local firefighter union as a wage and hour representative and will always be remembered for his love for his family and the fire department.  We all enjoyed his "outdoor voice" and his generosity.  Many of his friends consider him a fine fisherman.  George will be missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Sly, son, Kristoffer Sly, and daughter, Jocelyn Sly.
